Boolean Search

A boolean search is a search that includes mathematical terms such as “and”, “or”, and “not”.

BOT

A bot is shortcut for robot, which is sometimes called spider, which is a software program that scans the internet for various purposes. Examples of which could be to gather information, to index sites for search engines, harvest email addresses for spammers, and so much more.

Brand

Brand is the emotional response of a person to a company and/or product. A brand is built through managing and living up to the expectations of customers. Companies and products with brand have marketability and have higher profits.

Branded Keywords

Branded keywords are words or phrases that are associated to a brand. Branded keywords are very profitable. Some affiliate programs allow these words to be used while others do not.

Breadcrumb Navigation

Breadcrumb navigation is a navigational technique that helps search engines and site users to understand the relationship between pages. The page that the user is on is unlinked but the pages above it are linked and are organized based on the structure of the site starting from the homepage.

Broad Match

Broad Match is a type of keyword matching. It is the matching of a search listing or advertisement to selected keywords in different variations. Broad match terms, unlike exact or phrase matches, are less targeted.

Broadband

Broadband, also known as broad bandwidth is a kind of channel for the transmission of data. It uses multiplexing which allows data to be transmitted faster compared to dial up internet connections.

Broken Link

A broken link is a link that goes to a page that does not exist. Spiders remove these dead links when they encounter them.

Browser

A Browser is a program used to access the World Wide Web.

Browser Compatibility

Browser compatibility refers to ability of a browser to display the content of a webpage effectively. A successful webpage supports the viewing of the page in different browsers.

Bug

A bug is a term used to refer to a problem or an error in a program or site.

Burst

A burst is a sudden interest in a particular subject which causes a rise in searches for that subject but would eventually die down after a while. Examples of bursts are news items which rise and fall in popularity.

Business.com

Business.com is a large and trusted directory of business websites and information.

Button

A Button is a clickable image that directs a user to another page or plays media.

Buying Cycle

Buying cycle refers to the cycle that people go through when making a purchase. Before making the purchase, most people will do some research about the product on the internet. Keywords based marketing is effective in reaching consumers during the various stages of the buying cycle. The different stages of the buying cycle includes problem discovery, search, evaluate, decide, purchase, and reevaluate.

Cache

A cache is a copy of web pages that has been stored locally in the hard drive of an internet user or also within a search engine’s database. The cache is the reason behind why web pages load quickly when you go back to a previously visited page since the page is not being reloaded off from the internet - the page is loaded from the cache.

Call to Action

Call to action is an advertising copy that is used to encourage a person to complete an action. Examples of call to action words are click here, buy now, click to download, etc.

Canonical URL

The canonical URL of a site is the most authoritative version indexed by search engines. It does not contain duplicate material. Duplicate material can cause problems when using inconsistent links because the same content can be indexed multiple times under different URLs. To index the root level of a URL, placing a “/” at the end of the URL prevents it from being duplicated.

Captcha

Captcha is a mixture of letters and numbers that is used as a code that a person must enter to access a site. This ensures that the person visiting the site is a live person and not any automated system that could spam the site.
